Real Vancouver was created as a response to what we considered to be a general lack of literary programming during the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Due to the success and enthusiasm generated during the Olympics Editions of Real Vancouver we decided to carry on programming events, eventually including writers from across Canada.
We have welcomed writers from all over British Columbia as well as writers from Saskatoon, Toronto, Charlottetown, Montreal, Ottawa, and elsewhere.
We believe that the Vancouver writing community is one of the most vibrant and welcoming in the world and are proud to make a contribution to it.
As curators we aim to celebrate published authors and up-and-coming writers on the same stage in front of a diverse audience.
Our goal is to record and archive every edition of the series for posterity. Please bear with us as we work to make our archives available over time.
We are all volunteers and all proceeds from any of our events goes to future programming and paying writers.
Real Vancouver also partners with larger groups and organizations to bring innovative, original literary programming, such as:
Penguin Books: Book Launch Zsuzsi Gartner’s Better Living Through Plastic Explosives
Griffin Poetry Trust, Griffin Poetry Prize Gala Vancouver 2012
Frontier College, Giller Light Bash Vancouver 2011
W2 Community Media Arts Society: Utopia Festival (Women in Digital Culture).
We’re just getting started and we hope that you’ll join us.
